THE Herald’s been given a hot tip that former Fremantle Ports CEO Kerry Sanderson will be WA’s next governor—making her the state’s first woman appointed to the vice-regal role.
Premier Colin Barnett’s office didn’t even bother responding to Herald questions but our insider says Dr Sanderson’s a shoe-in when Malcolm McCusker retires this year.
Dr Sanderson ran and grew the port from 1991-2008. For the next three years she was WA’s agent-general in Europe, promoting investment from the continent and Russia. With a CV longer than Aaron Sandilands’ right leg she’s currently chair of the Gold Corporation (which owns the Perth Mint) and sits on a number of boards including Atlas Iron, St John of God Health Care and the Paraplegic Benefit Fund. We couldn’t find any references to whether she’s related at all to former WA governor John Sanderson: give us a bell if you know.
