DIVERS are warned to tread carefully following the death of a 39-year-old man off Rottnest Island at the weekend.
Fremantle’s hyperbaric medical director Neil Banham says people need to carefully plan their dives using tables to set limits on exposure to pressure and ascent speed.
Dr Banham says the risk of decompression sickness is a function of the pressure of the water around a diver (their depth), the duration of their dive and their rate of ascent.
The warning follows the death of one of three people injured in separate incidents at Rottnest.
