JULIA GILLARD visited Cockburn’s Anning Park Thursday to announce her government will kick in $10 million for the Dockers’ $114m training HQ.
Flanked by the club’s Matthew Pavlich, Michael Waters and Aaron Sandilands, the PM says the project will bring “environmental as well as social and economic benefits to the residents of Cockburn and surrounding areas”.
“Importantly, the new centre will generate 400 jobs during construction and create 600 ongoing jobs in the area.”
Cockburn Central is within the federal Fremantle electorate, represented by Labor’s Melissa Parke. At the March 9 state election, voters in the area swung heavily to the Liberals.
The Dockers recently signed an agreement with Cockburn council to shift from Fremantle to the site.
