Locals around Rick Vosper reserve in Brentwood have had a win with Melville council moving to stamp out anti-social behaviour in the troubled park.
Cr Effie Nicholson pushed for the changes, saying the park needs new lights because troublesome sorts lurk in the shadows.
“People congregate in the park at night where they can’t be seen and check out the houses and then go and break into them,” Cr Nicholson says.
Along with the new lights there’s a raft of other upgrades planned: “We got trees, because the trees were dying and not being replaced. We got some paths because disabled people couldn’t get from the main path in the park to the barbecue area and basketball courts.
“They fixed up the sump: The sump was getting broken into all the time by vandals.”
Happy local Anna Hansen says, “quite frankly I was amazed that it actually got done, because it took so long and no one seemed interested except Effie”.
