Like Baby Bear’s porridge this delightful White Gum Valley home is “just right” as far as I’m concerned.
Housing diversity, catering for couples or singles, or even those with one child, makes good sense.
But Australia has the largest house sizes in the world, often with just one or two people rattling around in them, with little choice for those looking for something more modest.
So it was refreshing to discover this cute, 2003-built two-bedroom/two-bathroom home on Wongan Avenue.
With its style and panache it puts many bigger homes, where blandness and sameness are king, to shame.
Stained glass doors and windows, rendered walls and a fully laden lemon tree shading a cute front courtyard ensure a very Fremantle welcome.
Step inside and soaring space and light are the first things you notice, followed shortly thereafter by a “wow, I love the rough bush poles holding up the ceiling”.
Set amidst the leafy and community-minded WGV this home is a mere five-minute drive from Fremantle.
There’s nothing rough about the rustic appeal of this abode, sitting on 348sqm, with its clean sharp lines, massive bifold doors to a north-facing courtyard patio, and glowing American oak floors.
The main bedroom is at the front of the house, and if you think small means pokey think again, this is a spacious room with doors to the courtyard and a gorgeous gothic arched window.
Built-in robes and a cute ensuite, also with an arched window are the finishing touches. The second bedroom is a mezzanine space currently used as a study.
The kitchen is compact but there’s no shortage of storage, with a bank of pantry cupboards. And I loved the shabby-chic stressed look of the benches and open cupboards.
Garden wasn’t sacrificed for internal space and there’s a second alfresco area off the kitchen, with room for a vegie patch, a lush passionfruit vine and a rainwater tank.
Set amidst the leafy and community-minded WGV this home is a mere five-minute drive from Fremantle, close to schools, shops and public transport. And there’s a great local cafe a block away.
