Oz too slow

AUSTRALIA is being left behind in the human rights stakes says WA Greens MP Lynn MacLaren, with Scotland becoming the 17th country to extend marriage rights to homosexual couples.

Ms MacLaren, a lesbian, says it’s “embarrassing” that Australia is so far behind the eight-ball. The Scottish parliament voted 105 to 18 in favour of equal marriage.

“The overwhelming vote of 105-18 shows that this is clearly a no-brainer for MPs representing voters who view marriage as a human right, regardless of sexual orientation,” the Fremantle-based MP said.

“That vote stands as an embarrassment to Australian politics where the vote for same-sex marriage has been met with resistance by MPs out of touch with the Australian view on the issue.”

  1. Homosexuals represent 2-4% of the population. Why this section of the community is trying to force the mainstream society to adopt a policy which contradicts the laws of nature is dumbfounding and disturbing. Society’s recognition of marriage as a union of a man and a woman is and should remain as it is. Saying that it is a human right to marry and that they are being discriminated against is a joke.
