Roe Hwy a border bogey

PARENTS at Perth Waldorf School who oppose the construction of Roe 8 are being urged in the school newsletter to support Cockburn council’s fight for survival.

In an unbylined article, the newsletter points out that if Cockburn council vanishes, the Beeliar wetlands will be split between three councils, principally Melville which is a strong supporter of Roe 8.

Cockburn council has a history of opposing the $600 million six-lane extension’s construction.

While councils have little to no power to stop major roads, which come under state government authority, their support or opposition can be vital when it comes to resourcing action groups and to lending moral and media support.
