CONCRETE islands designed to prevent burnouts in a Woodman Point car park have spurred local meatheads to destroy a popular family picnic area instead.
A grassed area at the John Graham Reserve was extensively damaged Sunday night when yobs cut locks on bollards to gain access.
WA parks and wildlife manager Shawn Debono says staff regularly patrol the area and didn’t see anything until next morning.
“The department spends a large amount of time maintaining vehicle barriers, gates and bollards to prevent vehicle access into natural areas,” he says.
“Concrete islands were constructed in the car parks as deterrents to reckless drivers.”
Similar incidents have occurred at Woodman Point in recent years, he notes.
