BEAMISH is a word often attributed to the fertile mind of Lewis Carroll, for his poem Jabberwocky, but is a real word meaning to smile with happiness.
There’s plenty to smile about at this Beamish Avenue home, in the aptly named Mt Pleasant.
With the cul de sac ending in a thicket of mature trees and a grassy bank, behind which the freeway can be faintly heard rumbling like a mythical monster, Carroll’s “beamish boy” could think he was hunting the jabberwocky in a forest.
The murmur fades away as you wander down a garden lane to this four-bedroom/two-bathroom home.
If you’ve a sunshine nature you’ll love the glass-roofed and walled sitting room, overlooking the tropical garden and glistening pool.
It’s a great place to soak up warming beams on cold days, the vendor says.
On hot ones you can bet new owners will be basking by the pool, or sitting in the thatched cabana, with its moat-like pond and surrounding lush vegetation.
The vendor dug the pond, ensuring it was deep enough to stop wading birds eating the fish, and planted trees to attract the birds he did want. “You get a huge amount of birds because it’s such a nice environment for them,” he says.
All but the main bedroom is on the ground floor, with the living spaces on the second level, where marri flooring cast a golden sheen on white walls.
With its cathedral ceiling and walls of glass it’s a light filled space with balconies both ends, one off the kitchen the other off the living area from where you get river views.
The kitchen is a huge space, in crisp white with no shortage of storage and useful bench space.
The main bedroom, with river and garden views, is a tranquil haven of repose.
With the freeway nearby you’re close to Perth, and the Applecross cafe/shopping strip.
“Frabjous day, Callooh! Callay!, there’s plenty to be beamish about in this delightful property.
