Win a ride for two in the beautifully decorated, honoured lead boat, along with the Madonna dei Martiri and the President.
A day full of colour, pageantry and tradition, this year’s Blessing of the Fleet kicks off on Saturday 24 October 2015. A revered tradition for generations in the Italian seaside towns of Molfetta and Capo D’Orlando, the festival was first introduced to the wider Fremantle community by Italian migrant fisherman in 1948. Now in its 67th year, the Blessing of the Fleet continues to attract thousands of people to the port town to watch the procession and enjoy a great day out in Fremantle.
Voice readers have the chance to be part of all the action by winning a ride for two in the beautifully decorated lead boat, along with the Madonna dei Martiri and the President.
The procession gets underway at 2pm, leaving St Patricks Basilica and making its way down to Fishing Boat Harbour. The statue of Madonna dei Martiri is placed on the leading boat with all the special guests and the men carrying the Madonna. Then the silver Madonna of Capo D’Orlando statue is placed on the second boat with all the debutantes and their partners. The Archbishop will bless the fleet, asking the Madonnas to provide it with a bountiful season and to keep the fisherman safe at sea.
The boardwalks will be full of family entertainment, culminating in a fireworks display at the southern end of the harbour at 8pm. The community is also invited to attend the annual Blessing of the Fleet ball. For more information or to book, please contact John Minutillo on 0419 045 394.
