Perth Symphonic Chorus

39COMPETITION CHORUS

Win one of two double passes to the performance of your choice: Saturday 10 Oct at Perth Modern School 7.30pm or Sunday 11 Oct at Government House Ballroom 3.00pm.

Since its inception in 1997, the Perth Symphonic Chorus has impressed and mesmerised audiences throughout Australia and overseas, including New York, Salzburg and Vienna. Led by internationally acclaimed conductor Dr Margaret Pride, the chorus comprises close to 100 disciplined, enthusiastic and passionate individuals who are skilled in performing the works of some of the best choral composers throughout the ages.

The Spring Concert will be a lively affair, with an exciting programme including Mendelssohn’s Die Erste Walpurgisnacht, A God Disguised by Larsson and Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. According to Margaret Pride, concert goers are in for a rare treat.

“Apart from the Unfinished Symphony you may not know these works. But I’d like to assure you that both the Larsson and Mendelssohn are fabulous! The chorus is enjoying preparing these works immensely and of course would love to share them with you. It should be illegal for a chorus to have this much fun with its programme!”

The Larsson is a Swedish work sung in English, written in the mid-thirties and loosely based on the story of Apollo. In Europe it is one of the most frequently performed and loved choral works but it is rarely done here.

Mendelssohn’s Die erste Walpurgisnacht is wonderfully addictive! If you like his Overture to the Midsummer Night’s Dream you’ll love this work. The use of the orchestra here is just as impish and sets the listener’s imagination on fire. The basis of Die erste Walpurgisnacht is the Druid’s resistance to Christianity during the Charlemagne era. Be enthralled as witches and devils dance around their forest bonfires, resisting the soldiers.

Voice readers have the chance to win one of two double passes to the performance of their choice: Saturday 10 October at Perth Modern School 7.30pm or Sunday 11 October at Government House Ballroom 3.00pm. Bookings through Ticketek http://www.ticketek.com.au or 13 28 49.
