BOLD colours and deep, shady nooks mark this home in Ingram Street, Hamilton Hill for a look.
I loved the use of yellow, salmon pink and cerise on the walls, and — my favourite — electric blue on the kitchen cupboards. Set against a sand-yellow wall it looks great as a central point of a huge open plan living/dining/kitchen area.
Or as the agent so poetically put it, “a happy, light and bright feel”.
If bright colours aren’t you, don’t write this four-bedroom home off, after all it’s only paint and the bones are here for a great family home, from high ceilings and polished jarrah floors, to generous spaces.
The kitchen is a tad dated, but with plenty of stainless steel benchtop and cupboards you could just move the pots and pans in and get cooking.
The lounge has a massive window overlooking the native front garden, and a gas fire in the old brick fireplace to cosy up to in winter.
But for the summer you’ll probably be outdoors, where a high limestone fence ensures privacy in a gloriously eclectic and lush garden, where a high-rise timber cubby house is reminiscent of a fort.
There are several sitting areas, including a brick-paved terrace amongst the rampant vegetation of an old grapevine and an ancient almond tree.
Looking at the tree’s huge girth the agent and I figured it had to be 80–100 years old.
A second sitting area is under a massive wisteria. I have it on good authority it’s a sight to see when flowering, which you can do relaxing in the outdoor bathtub nearby.
There’s an alfresco area close to the house, and a swathe of grass for the kids to play.
And a shed for the blokes to hang out in, which judging by the wall-mounted rack of stubby holders has been going on a lot.
Set on a 806sqm block this is a great family home, with a kindy just up the road and an award-winning primary school close by, as is an amazing park and playground.
