A Rotto escape in Hilton

WHEN I first arrived at this Butson Street property in Hilton, the limestone and panel timber fencing brought to mind memories of Rottnest’s beach cottages.

A large ficus dominates the front, producing a beautiful dappled shade over a large front garden and deck, perfect for kids’ play, and lazy morning breakfasts outside.

The relaxed holiday feel continues as you enter the home, with its minimal fuss kitchen, living and dining area with high ceilings and polished boards.

The newly renovated stone bench top kitchen leads on to the decked outdoor undercover laundry, adding to the outdoorsy, country cottage vibe, but nothing evokes this feeling more than the impressive trio of raised vegetable garden beds and chicken run on the side of the house.

The back patio is the perfect chill out zone, with lush green plants around its edges, and an outdoor bath around the side.

It has plentiful space for hosting relaxed summer dinner and drinks parties, but is easy to maintain.

If the outdoor areas aren’t enough, the corrugated iron features of the low bathroom perfectly top of the nostalgic feel of a simpler time in the country that the property has so well achieved.

Sitting on approximately 398sqm, and with Grigg Park, shopping and the lovely primary school close by, this three-bedroom, one-bathroom elevated cottage is the perfect “holiday at home” for a small family or couple who appreciate the simple pleasures in life.
