Immerse yourself in the intoxicating flavours of India at the Copper Chimney. This vibrant South Fremantle restaurant is a reflection of all that is wonderful about the sub-continent – a rich melting pot of colour, culture and sublime food.
The Copper Chimney is an eclectic blend of the traditional and the modern and it’s no happy accident. Owners and Chefs Elance Fernando and Kaushal Verma set out with a firm set of principles: to follow traditional cooking methods, use only the freshest produce and in doing so, help to restore Indian cuisine’s reputation as world class. They’re obviously onto a winning formula, gathering many awards along the way, including Gold Plates in 2014 & 2015.
“We aim to lead the way. All our chicken is free-range and we carefully select the seafood from local and imported markets to ensure it is the best quality from sustainable fisheries,” explained Elance.
“We’ve discovered many people here are vegetarian, as they are in India, so we have an excellent selection of dishes,” he added. ‘We also have many dishes that do not contain gluten, garlic or onion. Please let us know if you have any food allergies or special dietary requirements.”
The Copper Chimney’s menu is always evolving and has just been changed for the fifth time since the restaurant began. It’s a deliberate move to keep things fresh and exciting for diners, who in addition to enjoying lunch and dinner, can now also call in for breakfast. Indian for breakfast? Yes, the way locals have taken to the morning menu suggests that it’s a great way to start the day. Offerings such as dosa, paratha with goat curry, and chickpea curry served with bhatoora – a fluffy type of pancake are popular choices.
In a recent Herald food review, Jenny D’Anger was in seventh heaven after sampling the breakfast menu:
“I’d been keen to check out breakfast at Copper Chimney ever since they started opening in the mornings. We had the English father in law in tow, who’s idea of breakfast is bacon and eggs and while initially he was a little non plussed by the menu, he was soon tucking into a dosa with gusto. He even embraced a mango lassi, instead of his usual cup of tea. Dave’s banana paratha was magnificent – gently heated flat bread filled with banana and topped with maple syrup, while my all time favourite potato masala dosa was absolutely sublime!”
Fernando and Kaushal would like to thank the many local diners and the media who have helped us for the last 4 years to make Copper Chimney a resounding success. And the greatest gratitude must go to the man above – Jesus Christ, without whom nothing would be possible.
