GOB-SMACKINGLY spacious probably best sums up my first impressions of this Bateman Road, Mt Pleasant home.
Other superlatives, such as opulent, sumptuous and sophisticated came to mind as I wandered through the five-bedroom/three-bathroom mansion.
Beautiful black, wrought iron gates guard the home, and standing under the soaring portico, I took in the pool off to the side as sunshine picked out the dolphin mosaic on the bottom, bringing the leaping creatures to life.
Walls of glass
Inside was as bright as the outdoors, thanks to walls of glass extending to the second level on two sides of the massive entry.
Like a scene from an episode of Dallas, wrought iron and black granite stairs curves majestically to the second level.
Cresting the staircase you’ll find a spacious sitting area, a swathe of glass walls, and a balcony with river views.
The bedrooms are also on this level, including the massive main with its spacious river-facing balcony and walk-in-robe.
Hand-painted columns lead to a super-sized open-ensuite, with spa and double vanities.
The living spaces are in the ground floor, a sweeping open area, its ceiling held aloft by columns.
Tucked inside a huge curved wall of glass the dining area overlooks the alfresco area and pool.
There’s more black granite in the kitchen, topping a huge sweep of bench space.
Golden American oak drawers and cupboards, including a walk-in-pantry, are the perfect foil for the black and white decor of the living space and kitchen.
This is a chef’s delight, with state of the art appliances, including a built-in coffee machine.
And with a five-burner Ilve cooktop and oven it doesn’t get any better when it comes to cooking up a storm for friends and family, whether dining indoors or in the expansive alfresco area.
The river and a tranquil foreshore path are a two-minute walk away, and there’s no shortage of shops and eateries close to hand.
