COCKBURN council has joined the mobile food van revolution.
Planning director Daniel Arndt says like other councils, Cockburn’s been overwhelmed in recent years from food van operators looking for somewhere to set up, so its opened up four local parks.
He says they’ve looked for places where the vans wouldn’t create traffic problems, take up valuable parking or compete with nearby cafes and restaurants.
The four new sites included Rollinson Road car park in North Coogee, the CY O’Connor beach reserve car park, Manning Park, and near the new playground at Bibra Lake Reserve.
“A stall holders license will be granted to one vehicle owner for each site for one year only with the first license commencing in October,” Mr Arndt said.
“There is no guarantee that any license will be renewed.”
Owner of Saigon Soulfood Marcus Rees says, “It’s always good to know new sites are being made available.”
Mr Rees has been running Saigon Soulfood for two years based mostly in Fremantle.
