Members of the Watercolour Society of WA are busy putting the finishing touches to the paintings they plan to enter into their 36th Annual Awards Exhibition. Opening on Thursday 13 October at 6.30pm at the Italian Club, Marine Terrace Fremantle, this is the highlight of the Society’s year.

Members will display more than 200 of their finest works, to be admired, discussed and hopefully purchased by an ever-increasing number of watercolour aficionados. The exhibition will continue over Friday 14, Saturday 15, and Sunday 16 October. There will be watercolour demonstrations throughout the weekend, and the ever-popular raffle will give one lucky person the chance to win an original artwork created by a member of the Society. Second prize winner will receive a carton of wine.

The paintings will be judged in several categories: Best in Show, General, Still Life, Innovative and this year’s special category “Fremantle A Passing Parade.” Exhibition winners gain points towards becoming Fellows of the Society, a much sought after honour in one of the few Australian art societies to have a juried entry level. The general public is also encouraged to get into the act and vote for the “People’s Choice” award – a much appreciated prize for the artists.

The exhibition is also an opportunity for the public to learn more about the Society, its teachers, deep connections with international Watercolour Societies, the upcoming Watercolours WA Biennale 2017 and other events. This is a not to be missed exhibition!
