Aubrey chosen for Willagee run

MELVILLE councillor Rebecca Aubrey has been endorsed by the Liberal party to contest the state seat of Willagee, and will run against incumbent Labor member Peter Tinley.

Cr Aubrey says the electoral redistribution has made Willagee less safe for Labor, but reckons wresting it to the right would be bittersweet because she’ll have to resign from Melville council.

Cr Aubrey, who’s the daughter of mayor Russell Aubrey, was elected unopposed as his deputy at a council meeting earlier this week.

The news prompted Mr Aubrey to invite his wife up for a family photo, proudly noting there were no other father/daughter, mayor/deputy teams in all of WA.
