Cockburn off to market

A NEW weekly farmers and artisans market kicks off at Manning Park in Spearwood today (Saturday October 22) as Cockburn council embraces the popular movement.

Coinciding with Perth’s first sunny weekend in yonks, the market is being organised by Fremantle-based markets guru Kylie Wheatley, who’s run a host of similar events in Fremantle since first kicking off the Village Market in Kings Square back in the noughties.

Freshly picked produce, fish, bacon, and olive oil will be on sale alongside a range of baristas, bakers, and international food vendors, with all 50 stalls hand-picked by Ms Wheatley.

A petition of 206 locals supporting the venture was included in her submission.

To celebrate its first weekend, performers Natalie Gillespie, Rose Parker, and Dave Brewer will be brought in to entertain the crowd, visiting Gyuto monks from Nepal will do an auspicious morning blessing, and mayor Logan Howlett will conduct the official opening.

The Manning Park farmers and artisans market will be running from 8.30am to 12.30pm every Saturday at the Manning Park Sound Shell, Azalia Road in Spearwood.
