OPPOSITION leader Mark McGowan has committed to funding a feasibility study into a light rail between Cockburn and Armadale if elected in March.
Making the announcement Thursday afternoon, Mr McGowan said Labor would fast-track the dual carriageway project for Armadale Road between Anstey and Tapper roads and look into whether it would support light rail.
He said the Barnett government’s own planning documents highlight the area as significant for growth, and he’s planning to divert Roe 8 funding there.
“Traffic congestion in this corridor is only getting worse with hundreds of new residents moving into the area on a frequent basis,” Mr McGowan said.
The Opposition leader said that if the feasibility plan showed the light rail was feasible, it could be incorporated into the second phase of Labor’s Metronet plan.
