A sunny outlook

SUNNY’S was new when I lunched there with friends aeons ago. It was around Christmas and a cointreau seemed an appropriate ending to an enjoyable meal.

“Frapped?” the waiter asked.

“Frap what?” my mate and I replied in confusion, before enjoying our cointreau – over crushed ice.


While the lunch lives in my memory, Sunny’s has long gone, replaced by six small, three-storey blocks of luxury apartments.

Number 26 is on the ground floor so I wasn’t expecting the sweeping views from the massive open-plan living/dining/kitchen.


Pictorial feast

Floor-to-ceiling doors and windows frame the river, Northbank and the old traffic bridge, while giant cranes stride like prehistoric creatures across north mole.

It’s a moving pictorial feast with small craft cruising up and down the river during the day, a procession of party boats adding to the colour at night and huge cruise and cargo ships gliding in and out of port around the clock.

This three-bedroom/two-bathroom apartment is an elegant and spacious abode.


It’s easy to imagine fancy dinner parties, with food whipped up on the commodious kitchen’s sweep of black granite bench tops.

With plenty of storage, including a walk-in-pantry, hiding the evidence of a cooking frenzy would be easy.

With a huge balcony overlooking the river a stylish barbeque would be the go over WA’s long hot summers.

Or there’s the communal pool, with its covered barbecue area.

If you fancy going Italian head to your own spacious, and very private, courtyard with its built-in-pizza oven.


Sitting on 374sqm the garden is surprisingly large, with lawned terraces, garden beds, a massive steel urn water feature, and a couple of sitting areas.

The spacious main bedroom, off the entry vestibule, has doors onto a courtyard garden. And there’s a spa as well as shower in the ensuite.

The river foreshore is right on the doorstep, and there’s no shortage of cafes and shops in walking distance from this terrific apartment.
