Rock steady on Crewe

THE vendor of this Crewe Street home and I reminisced over a cuppa about a time before Facebook or Twitter when kids roamed free until mealtimes.

An author and columnist, he’s publishing a book about the life and times of baby boomers that explores a very different growing up to today’s computer kids.

With the Swan less than two minutes away by scooter he reckons kids can still have adventures living here: “[And] take themselves to the river.”

Set on a 443sqm rear strata property the four-bedroom/four-bathroom home was designed by Gerard McCann Architects.

Wander down the shared drive and the first thing you’ll discover is a lovely courtyard garden.

Golden sandstone

With it’s expanse of soft faux grass, lush plantings, massive pot plants and a lovely golden sandstone wall it has the ambience of a classy boutique beer garden.

With a covered alfresco dining area tucked around a corner this space is a great entertainment zone.

And a matching “grassed” area off the kitchen and a second sitting room is perfect for kids to play.

There’s a Mediterranean look to this imposing two-storey home, with its covered portico and spacious entry.

The open plan is a commodious space, where banks of floor-to-ceiling doors and windows ensure it’s light-filled and give views of the courtyard, where the changing light chases over the textured sandstone wall.

With its heap of stylish white cupboards, soft-close drawers and sweep of white Caesarstone bench tops, including an island breakfast bar, the kitchen is a space to delight the heart of any chef.

A second sitting room is a great spot for a kids play area, with access to the protected rear courtyard.

The bedrooms and three of the bathrooms are on the second level, including a very generous main, which has room for a couch, a bank of built-in-robes along one wall and an ensuite with a deep bath, double vanities and separate shower.

There’s room behind the double garage, with its separate storage/workshop area, to store a boat or trailer.

With the river on the doorstep there’s no shortage of pleasant walks, either to Point Walter or if you’re feeling energetic follow the river down to the Left Bank.
