Bridge okay

A LITTLE routine maintenance is all that’s needed for the footbridge between North Fremantle and Leighton Beach, says the Public Transport Authority “Bridge neglected,” Herald, May 6, 2017).

When the Herald raised North Freo resident Mark Bailey’s concerns about the state of the bridge, the authority sent someone out to inspect the bridge who gave it a tick.

“While the bridge is ageing, it is structurally sound and perfectly safe for public use,” says PTA spokesperson David Hynes.

“Aside from routine maintenance, there are no plans to conduct any upgrade works to the footbridge at this time, because no works are required.”

He noted that the bridge is not heritage-listed, though the heritage council says it has some significance. Mr Hynes says the bridge is perfectly safe for pedestrians.
