Charity strikes a chord

WITH two gigs and umpteen bands to organise for this year’s OXJAM, Freo muso Jakeb Stevenson was struggling to pull his own band together for the charity gig.

But he says the sacrifice is worth it if they can surpass last year’s fundraising total of $4000.

“Last year I raised the largest amount in Australia for my day-long fundraiser at North Fremantle Bowls Club,” Mr Stevenson says.

An OXJAM gig at Odd Fellows (Norfolk Hotel) last weekend topped expectations, and he’s pulling out all stops for a stella show at Mojo’s on August 19.

There’s a great line up including Moana, Marlinspike, Ray Finkle, Fuzz Toads, and Bad Friends and Josh Garner.

And guest DJ Chris Young (Pow Negro) and Vin (Hideous Sun Demon) will also rock up.

OXJAM events provide communities with clean water, healthcare, education and a real chance to thrive,” WA community campaigner Paddy Cullen says.
