Tyred of junk

THE South Beach Community Group has come up with a novel solution to help combat parking shortages on the streets of their ritzy seaside development — emptying out their garages.

“Parking is hard to come by in our area, we like to encourage neighbours to be strategic and clear out their garages to use for parking and not storage,” says SBCG chair Thorsten Goedicke.

To give locals an opportunity to turn a buck while making life on the streets easier, the group has organised a joint garage sale at Barrow Park on Saturday October 21 from 9am – 2pm.

Mr Goedicke said the event, part of the national Garage Sale Trail, also helped the environment and helped strengthen the community as neighbours got to know each other.

“This event is promoting sustainable habits as it encourages people to see value in items they no longer want or need instead of just binning them,” Mr Goedicke said.

There’ll be a coffee cart as well as the antiques and bric-a-brac, and activities for children, and anyone keen to get their own stall can find it at garagesaletrail.com.au/group-sale/south-beach-community-garage-sale.
