On 11 & 12 November 2017 the Boating Industry Association of Western Australia (BIAWA) along with Department of Transport Marine Safety, Sea Rescue Groups and members will hold another Rottnest Safety Convoy. The convoy is designed to show new and experienced boaties how to get to Rottnest Island safely, how to navigate the bays and provides vital safety information on flares, PFDs, beach anchoring, tenders and much more.
The convoy departs on Saturday morning from various locations including Hillarys, Fremantle, Woodman’s Point, Rockingham and Mandurah. BIAWA members & support agencies will escort the convoy and share their extensive knowledge and experience with participants. On Saturday evening there is a fun-filled safety quiz for young and old. All quiz prizes are donated by BIAWA members and this year total more than $4000 in value, including a Club Marine insurance voucher, Challenge Marine battery and PFDs.
The convoy departs the Island on Sunday morning, with participants a lot more knowledgeable about boating! People often comment on how much they learned over the weekend, how much fun they had and the great people they met. A number of the participants have joined subsequent convoys, keen to take part in the social aspect of the event. Due to high demand, BIAWA has decided to hold two convoys per year with the next being held in March 2018. Participation numbers are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
BIAWA would like to thank the sponsors of the November convoy; Pains Wessex, Westcorp Capital, Club Marine Insurance, Ego Sun Sense, Challenger Batteries, JPW and BCF. A special thanks also to BIAWA escorts from All Boats and Caravans, LeisureCat, Kirby Marine, Challenger TAFE, and to all BIAWA members who kindly donated prizes and the Langdon family for being the quiz MC.
