Pure pleasure

THE central courtyard of this Hilton home has the air of a Persian pleasure garden.

The sunshine orange walls of the vestibule are protected by high wrought iron gates, framed by a stand of delicate, black bamboo.

Enhancing the ambience is the tinkle of a water feature, making this pleasant area, off the kitchen, one of the owner’s favourite “rooms”.

“I like to sit and read recipes there,” she says.

A hammock suspended between mature gum trees, beside a second courtyard, is another special spot, whether reading or drifting off to the sound of birdlife.

“And I like the whole dining-living space,” she says.

Located on Clarke Street, this four-bedroom home flows seamlessly, with areas for sharing and some for solitude.

It’s perfect for the changing needs of a growing family, with a flexible layout, including a studio, separated from the main house by the vestibule.

In the past the studio’s been used as an artist’s den, games room, teenage bedroom and guest room, and it’s also a great spot for a home office.

At the front of the house is the main bedroom: a huge space with picture windows overlooking a protected, and lush, front garden.

There’s a spacious walk-in-robe and an attractive en suite.

The open plan is spacious, with a wall of glass offering views of the side courtyard, and huge glass doors opening onto a covered alfresco at the rear.

Terracotta-coloured tiles contrast nicely with the dark blue/grey feature walls, adding a real pizzaz to predominately white walls.

The same dark teal is on the cupboards in the kitchen, while the splash back has a gorgeous mix of orange tones and small touches of blue.

Sitting on a 810sqm lot, there’s a meandering, semi-native front garden—screened from the street by hedging trees—and a swathe of grass out the back for kids.

There are shops and a couple of cafe close by, and Fremantle is less than 10 minutes away.
