Swimming in cash

COCKBURN’S new flagship leisure centre Cockburn Arc has been so successful it’s left the council swimming in cash.

Releasing his mid-yearly update on the council’s progress this year, Cockburn CEO Stephen Cain last fortnight revealed a handy $1.26 million windfall due to unexpected demand for the $109m facility.

As a result, the gym has already been expanded to cater for the surging demand.

On the spending side of the ledger, the council’s fallen a bit behind this year on both its operating ($4.62m) and capital expenditure ($7.98m).
