A creative and collaborative Fremantle Florist Studio specialising in funeral, wedding and events flowers

The “girl power” duo behind Beaconsfield florist studio Moss & Fern were inspired by their parents to take the plunge into small business.

Jess Suwindia and Sharni Ashby, whose parents owned small businesses, describe their floristry as “creative and fresh,” which could just as easily describe them the duo themselves.

Moss & Fern specialise in funeral, wedding and events flowers, focusing on larger scale custom orders rather than small bouquets.

While the team mentioned their love for suspended installation, they said the flowers can be as creative or traditional as the customer wishes.

Jess grew up amongst the rich culture and traditions of Bali, which she says has been a great influence.

After moving to Perth for high school she started working part time in a florist.

“Nature, flowers and plants have always been a great teacher and influences my creativity.”

Sharni is a Freo local who describes growing up in a house full of flowers and a green thumbed Dad.

“I’ve always gravitated to flowers,” she says.

The flower van visits daily with fresh flowers and Moss & Fern take what they need for that day.

“It means people’s flowers last so much longer,” says Jess.

“Sometimes people try to email us with an order, but we encourage them to come in and have a chat face to face.”

“We like to suss their personality and style and get to know their vision,” agrees Sharni.

The two good friends chuckle together as they try to decide a favourite flower.

“It depends on the season and what’s freshest,” says Jess.

They agree that Hydrangeas are pretty great.
