Nippers clean-up

GLOVES on and rubbish bags at the ready.

Pupils at East Fremantle Primary School took to the streets and parks recently for Clean Up Australia Day.

Teacher Julie Hughes says the school was making a conscious effort to recycle and reduce waste.

Last year it implemented waste-free Tuesdays, when children were asked to bring lunchboxes with no throw-away packets or plastics.

“We’re just trying to teach students about rubbish they can recycle,” Ms Hughes says.

The waste-free day was well received by pupils and parents, so this year the school expanded it to two days a week.
