A QUARANTINE hanging over Fremantle following the discovery of the Queensland fruit fly has been lifted.

Barterers can now resume sharing their excess fruit, with the primary industries and regional development department praising their efforts in eradicating the pest.

“We understand these restrictions have caused some inconvenience and we thank the community for doing the right thing to help protect our local fruit and vegetable growers, and reclaim area freedom from Qfly,” said department biosecurity manager Darryl Hardie.

Department staff visited more than 140 properties during the campaign, setting up traps and spraying fruit trees with an organic bait.
