Attadale momento

THIS classic mid-century modern home in Attadale has been almost untouched since it was built in 1960s.

Over the years the owners watched from the huge lounge room windows as pink and grey galah reared their young in a massive gum tree in the front garden.

And their kids ran and played amongst a virtual forrest of eucalypts in the huge rear garden of this 1009sqm property.

Inside, the three-bedroom home is a time-capsule waiting for an inspired buyer to bring it into the 21st century, or restore it to its former glory.

The large open plan lounge has a soaring timber-beamed ceiling, a fireplace and picture windows framing the gum tree.

There’s not a lot to do in this room beyond some painting and ripping up the carpet to bring the aged jarrah floor back to life.

The kitchen/dining area is another matter, but it’s nothing a crowbar, sledgehammer and a little imagination wouldn’t improve.

When the owner moved into this house in the 1970s, she didn’t want anyone watching her cook, and had the open cabinetry between the kitchen and dining area closed in.

Hubbie was agreeable, as long as he could have a hidden cupboard “to use as a bar,” the agent recounts from family stories handed down.

It will have to go of course, and in my book so would the wall between the kitchen and sunroom.

It would be pretty straightforward to create an expansive kitchen/dining area, with access to the sprawling garden.

There are three good-sized bedrooms, but new owners are sure to want to go up a level for a parents retreat, subject to council approval.

There’s a heap of potential for a great family home, with a huge backyard and a large powered shed.

Situated on on Moreing Road, it’s only a two-minute walk to a small shopping centre with a great fish and chippie, deli, cafe and bottle shop.

And it’s a pleasant 20-minute walk to the Attadale foreshore.
