CASHING in on the quokka’s reputation as the world’s happiest marsupial, three creative locals have published a new children’s book.

South Fremantle author Jolly Read put together the story for Can a Quokka Quack, which uses quirky rhymes, a little history and a smidge of biology to tell the story of the selfie-kings of Rottnest.

Artistst Natasha Lee did the illustrations, while Kate Lindsay from local company Cogency did the design.

“We’ve deliberately made it all 100 per cent recyclable, with approved stock (no plastic laminations) and vegetable ink dyes,” Read says, adding it was also printed in WA.

“I’ve also used local Noongar names on the map (and in some text) as well, to highlight both English and Whadjuk Noongar names for Rotto and the Indian Ocean.”
