Prison for suitcase murder

THE mysterious death of a woman found floating in a suitcase in East Fremantle has come full circle, with her daughter and ex-husband given long prison terms over her murder.

Annabelle Chen’s half-naked body was found by fishermen in July 2, 2016, but she wasn’t formally identified until two months later when her daughter Tiffany Wan reported her missing.

Police discovered Wan had tried to conceal her role in the murder by sending text messages to her mother’s phone, despite having helped her father Ah Ping Ban dump the reclusive Mosman Park resident’s body under the Fremantle Traffic Bridge.

Ban and Wan blamed each other for the murder, but a jury sided with the daughter’s version and he was found guilty of murder.

This week he was jailed for life, while Wan received four years and 10 months for attempting to cover up the crime.

With parole, she could be released as soon as July next year.
