FREMANTLE filmmaker and script writer Emma Vickery’s short film Barry is a finalist at this year’s prestigious Tropfest festival.
Now in its 27th year, Tropfest is the world’s largest short film festival, and Vickery is in line to win a cash prize of $10,000 plus a shiny new car worth $32,000.
In Barry, local actors Ruben Yorkshire and Ben Mortley play a couple of hearse drivers, taking “Barry” on his last car ride.
On the way to the cemetery the pair fantasise about the sort of life their passenger lived, with a surprise twist when they arrive at the cemetery.
“I’m a big fan of absurdist comedy and black comedy…and anything to bring out the best and the worse in people,” Vickery says.
The winners will be announced Saturday February 9 in Sydney.
