STARING at the ceiling while someone pokes around in your mouth is one of those necessary but unpleasant tasks of life; a trip to the dentist.
But for visitors to the newly-opened budget dental clinic at Fremantle Hospital, the dull white ceiling tiles have made way for colourful artworks by local artist Peta Miller.
Working from a studio at the Fibonacci Centre in Blinco Street, Miller says her focus is on Fremantle images and scenes from the Kimberley.
“The strongest features of my work are playing with shape, tone and colour to capture the essence of a place,” Miller said.
The artist had been approached last year by Beatriz Perez, and architect with SPH Architect and Interiors which had been contracted by the health department to fit out the new clinic.
“They bring life and beauty into spaces that otherwise would be quite clinical,” says Perez of the enlarged sections from Miller’s work.
