Rat poison suspected in choc scare

RAT poison is believed to have been wrapped into mini chocolates left near homes along High Street last Friday.

Retired Herald advertising salesperson Liz West was at home on Friday when police came knocking at her door to alert her to the laced chocolates, which were individually wrapped and left along low fences and letterboxes.

She said the officer seemed pretty convinced the substance was rat poison.

Ms West said she’d not come across any suspicious sweets, nor had her neighbours, but wondered whether it’d been linked to the poisoning of a friend’s dog in White Gum Valley earlier in the week.

Police have warned residents to be vigilant, particularly if they have small children or dogs, as the chocolates had been placed at a height that made them easily accessible.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
