ABC celebrity gardeners Costa Georgiadis and Josh Byrne will be guests of honour at Hilton Harvest’s 10th birthday party next weekend (October 19 and 20).
The community garden will kick off festivities with a gala dinner on Saturday night, with food by Kazoomies and music by Soukouss Internationale.
Mr Georgiadis is up for auction and the winner will get to pick his brain in a special one-on-one garden consultation the next day.
The hairy garden guru reckons community gardens like Hilton Harvest have a lot to offer.
“It’s not just about food, they bring people together so they can connect over simple talks like planting veggies, sharing a cuppa and having a chat,” he says.
Mr Byrne is a long term supporter of Hilton Harvest, which is around the corner from his super eco-friendly home.
He recently shot a piece for the ABC’s Gardening Australia on the Hilton Harvest’s Buds in Bloom program, where old hands work with youngsters and families to instil a love of gardening across the ages.
“It’s a wonderful way to bring generations together,” Mr Byrne says.
Sunday is family day, and they’ll be a composting workshop with Mr Georgiadis at 10am, followed by afternoon tea and birthday cake.
The Buds in Bloom segment is set to run in the new year.
Tickets for the gala dinner at PCYC Progress Hall can be purchased at hiltonharvest.weebly.com
