LAST weekend Hilton Harvest Community Garden celebrated our 10th anniversary.
The Gala Dinner was a huge success with 150 people filling Progress Hall to the brim.
As well as celebration, reminiscing was in the air for many of the good folks who, over the years, had a hand in making the garden what it is today.
Lots of new faces came along to party and snap their Costa selfies but probably left with a warm feeling that good things can happen in the burbs.
Josh Byrne’s speech on the night acknowledged the spirit of community that has been created in Hilton because of the garden and the dedication of all those involved.
The following day the morning tea was a delight with Costa spreading his cheer and letting his ‘short’ composting workshop turn into a two hour masterclass!
The events would not be possible without the support from our sponsors. Special thanks to: City of Fremantle, who have been with us since the beginning;
Lauri Curtain from Dethridge Groves, our local real estate agent who was the first onboard with our Gala sponsorship;
Fremantle Ports who have sponsored us for the first time and we are excited about this new relationship;
Vam Media, with their uncanny knack of capturing the essence of the garden on film;
Wright Solutions, waste management and consultants who are a new sponsor and fellow lovers of compost; and,
Beverage sponsors Little Creatures and South Street Ale House.
As well as these formal sponsorships, the Fremantle business community donated over $4000 worth of prizes including Bread in Common and Replants who donated major prizes.
Special mention is also due to the volunteers who brought the night together.
For a little community not-for-profit group, this kind of support is heartwarming.
Not only does it help secure our future financially, it shows that grass-roots, community and connections are valued in Freo.
So thanks Freo and here’s to another 10 years.
