CHILE’S protestors will be at the forefront of hearts and minds at this weekend’s Fremantle Latino Film Festival.
Held in Freo’s Kings Square and town hall on November 23-24, the festival is not just a celebration of Latino culture, but also diversity, says Rafael Baro from organisers Cine Vivo.
“It’s about showing how cultural diversity helps promote a culture of peace in society worldwide,” Mr Baro said.
The weekend will feature music, markets, dancing and workshops as well as three top Latin films.
Mr Baro said families will love the animation Boy and the World (O Menino e o Mundo), an Oscar-nominated riot of music and colour depicting the wonders and struggles of the modern world through the eyes of a young Brazilian boy. It screens 4pm on Saturday.
Since early October, 19 Chileans have died and 2500 have been injured following a nation-wide rebellion sparked by the country’s increasing inequality. The trigger was a rise in train fares; since then protestors have bought the rail system to a standstill, with 17 stations burned down.
