Beacy beauty

SOME of my favourite properties are old character homes that have been sympathetically renovated and extended.

This five bedroom three bathroom home in Beaconsfield falls into that category, and is a charming abode with loads of character.

Exposed limestone has been used to great effect, creating a vintage backdrop as you pass from room to room.

It’s especially prominent in the kitchen, where two lovely archways and a balcony take things to another level.

There’s lots of nods to the past throughout the house including heritage fireplaces, wooden floors and a bullnose verandah.

The house has been renovated to a top standard with high ceilings and large windows flooding the rooms with natural light.

There’s loads of modern features, and the environmentally conscious will appreciate the double glazing and roof windows.

The garden is a cracker and includes a lovely lap pool fringed with ornamental trees and stone walls.

After a swim in the pool go around the corner to the large spa, which is fully sheltered for all-year round use.

Off to the side is a cute alfresco, shaded by lush overhanging trees, where you can entertain family and friends in the summer months.

Connecting the alfresco to the main garden is a wooden feature door with a window grille and ornate hinges. It’s little touches like this that make this property a bit special.

Rounding off the garden is a stone cottage which can be used for additional accomodation, and some powered sheds and a chook run.

This home is full of surprises – there’s actually a small turret, accessed via a wooden ladder, where you can enjoy sweeping views of the coastline and Rottnest.

After all that you might want to go for a nap – the four bedrooms at the front of the home are spacious, well appointed and have ducted air conditioning.

Situated on a 764sqm block on McCleery Street, this home is nestled between Beaconsfield, South Fremantle and Fremantle, so you have three great suburbs at your fingertips.

It’s a short walk to the South Freo entertainment strip, Fremantle Sailing Club and the beach, and come Sunday you can enjoy the local Fremantle Farmers’ Market.

This is a great home with the best of old and new.
