“Specs appeal“ in spades (and shades)
By Jane Grljusich
This is not your average optometrist. It jumps right out of the box.
Naked Specs is fully-Freo, all West Australian, and intercontinental in style.
A vibrant, independent, family-owned optical business, it began at the iconic Fremantle Markets, and now also provides full optometry services and frames galore in laid back South Freo.
Off ering comprehensive bulk-billed eye examinations including checks
for cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetes in a professional, personalised and caring environment, Naked Specs has the full range of prescription lenses and is registered with all major Australian health funds.
They have even created the West Australian Eye Test in collaboration with Andy Baker from Mokoh in South Fremantle. Instead of your usual letters – it features iconic local fauna including whale sharks and lobsters – and is sure to appeal to the kids.
Owner Justine Levin has based her study, career and enterprises on achieving excellence in personal service and “putting goodness back into the world”.
It was the focus of her Masters in Business Leadership.
What drives her to help people?
“Them,” she told the Herald.
“It’s my love of positive interactions that drive me, when we can make a positive diff erence to our clients and patients, no matter how small the difference.”
If you, or your children, feel uncomfortable wearing glasses, meet Justine and walk out feeling a million dollars!
“At Naked Specs we off er the best eyewear and the best experience that we can possibly give. We win peoples’ hearts and minds as they do with us. We do things our way and run our own race and will continue to do so,” Justine said.
There’s plenty on off er for the budget conscious, and those wanting simple and conservative eyewear, but if you really want to make a statement – Naked Specs is the place to go.
The collection is unique.
An assortment of carefully-curated, boutique eyewear for both men and women not ordinarily available on the high street.
Brands include Caroline Abram, Lafont, Matisse, Max Mara and the latest ranges from Plein Les Mirettes, Frost Eyewear and Missoni.
Naked Specs is the exclusive online retailer and largest stockist globally of the iconic Australian eyewear designer Paul Taylor.
They also carry popular Perth label Rixx Eyewear by former Fremantle Docker Tommy Sheridan.
“Her range of statement frames will give you an eyeful in elegance.”
Naked Specs is also an authorised dealer of PSG Eyewear – the largest supplier in Australia of certified and compliant prescription safety glasses.
Justine handpicks styles carrying discounted and more aff ordable designer glasses and the most eclectic range of glasses chains you could find, from simple leather strings perfect for sports, boating and sailing, to luxurious jewellery for your face.
Her range of statement frames will give you an eyeful in elegance (elegance is the only beauty that never fades, according to style icon Audrey Hepburn).
Frames range in price from $149 to $679, and sunglasses from $99 to $600.
“Luxury for less,” says Justine.
“Beautifully made glasses, no compromise.”
Naked Specs is Perth’s most unique and most talked-about eyewear boutique.

Evolution of an eye-catching local business
Naked Specs began in the Fremantle Markets four years ago as an optical dispenser with a diff erence. The business grew from nothing and from strength to strength.
Justine’s husband Adam came on board from his role as GM Customer and Digital at Perth Airport, bringing his MBA at Manchester Business School as well as extensive experience in marketing and design to the business.
He’s the genius behind the unique WA Eye Chart (which sells as an art piece and hangs on walls around the world) and the stylish interiors at the new South Freo store.
The Markets store will remain open with Justine and Adam praising the location as formerly (and hopefully again) a great base for international marketing of their products.
“In its prime we would have up to 25,000 people a day going past our store from all over the world. It gave our new start business national and international recognition,” Adam told the Herald.
“We have a new optometry lounge on the first floor. We wanted to bring colour, professional excellence and aff ordability – Luxury for Less as we call it – with a totally customer-centric experience.” Justine Levin
“We wanted to give our customers a positive and colourful professional experience, so everything from the welcome to our décor is designed to be enjoyed. Our artwork is from local artists and customers.” Adam Levin
“The artist in this pic is Barbara Bynder who is a customer of ours.” Adam Levin
Barbara is a Ballardong Whadjuk Noongar woman from the eastern wheatbelt (maternal lineage) and is connected to the Badimia people from Yamitji country.
