Rack off?

EARLIER this week I visited Walyalup Koort (as I do every Wednesday) and secured my bike to the bike racks, in the undercover area adjoining the Tourist Information Centre.

On leaving two hours later, I noted that the electric bike that had been secured next to my bike, had had the cable/ lock cut and was no longer there.

I looked through the glass panels into the civic centre and saw a security officer.

I felt, as I could readily see him, he may have noted the person cutting the lock, or have security footage of the theft.

If not, I felt it was appropriate to bring this matter to his attention.

His response was, ‘as I didn’t own the bike’, he would wait for the person who reported the bike missing before he would take any action.

It’s generally accepted that early reporting of such theft is more likely to result in the recovery of the stolen item, and I would hope that the City security service would support such action.

What a crackin’ cafe

WE took our grandchildren to their swimming lesson at Fremantle Leisure Centre last week and were blown away by the cafe there!

A far cry from most pool kiosks, my husband was served his coffee in a willow pattern cup and saucer; the delightful man running the place brought it to the table instead of just shouting out his name.

After the class, I ordered some hot chips for the boys, to find they were cooked fresh with every order.

The six-minute wait was absolutely worth it to have fresh crisp chips instead of soggy ones from a bain marie.

Good food, good coffee, great service.

And they have books for adults and kids to read and borrow.

I’m not waiting for swimming lessons to go there again.

(There is a small outdoor area on the outside of the centre, so you don’t have to pay to go inside.)

Not my job

REGARDING Robert Jack’s letter of January 17:
Initially, I called the police after a night of particularly loud “hooning’.

They suggested that I take down the number plates of the offending vehicles and report back.

Surely the Police need their own evidence to give the alleged “hooners” some consequences, if such still exist.

As an 80 (plus) woman I don’t wish to stand on Marine Parade taking down number plates.

It is not my job!
