It’s shear fun

THE City of Melville has unveiled new clubrooms and changerooms at Len Shearer Reserve in Booragoon, with the community gathering to celebrate the $3.5 million upgrade.

An open day last Sunday, marked the occasion, with family-friendly activities including a silent disco, bouncy castle and water dunker.

“We recognise the importance of providing inclusive multipurpose facilities that encourage healthy lifestyles and wellbeing and it was great to see this space being activated and used,” Melville mayor Katy Mair said.

• The community enjoyed activities such as Tunes for Tots at the Community Open Day

The new building includes a universal access toilet, umpires’ room and storage, with the City saying it aligns with its goal of supporting healthy lifestyles and wellbeing.

“The City is very appreciative of the WA Government’s contribution of $1.4 million to this project, via the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund and the Legacy Grants for Women’s National Premier Clubs.”

Melville Athletics Club and Murdoch University Melville Football Club have been using the facility since it opened in late 2025.

“The City’s investment into this facility enhances Len Shearer Reserve and supports an increased demand from all sports for non-gender specific facilities catering for female participation in sport.”

The project forms part of the City’s Active Reserve Infrastructure Strategy, aimed at improving local facilities and supporting the growth of community sport.
