Lawyers called for 5 storeys

LEGAL advice will be sought over a five-storey project planned for Canning Highway in Attadale.

The local development assessment panel—the unelected body that decides major projects—deferred the proposal for further negotiations in February, unhappy with the “bulk and scale”.

At five storeys the Gavin Construction project will tower over the one-storey house next door and even the three-storey apartment block on the other side. The usual height limit in the area is 9m, but this will stand 15.8m. Locals are overwhelmingly against it: Of 31 submissions to council, 30 opposed it.

A slightly “less intensive” plan is now before council, but the DAP will make the final call.

Meanwhile, Gavin Constructions is getting tired of delays and told the DAP “we are keen to get a determination on this matter as soon as possible”.
