Quirky Freo trio Formidable Vegetable Sound System is about to go “fungal”.

Although little known on its home turf of Fremantle, the band’s mix of messages about permaculture and twangy ukelele is about to get a global audience courtesy of the Glastonbury Festival.

That means frontman Charlie Mgee and pals will trade stages with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Portishead and Elvis Costello (well, they’ll be on stages nearby). The band is on a year’s tour of the world, heading back to WA in February to “relax and grow some nice tomatoes”.
