“Everyone in Fremantle is an artist,” jokes Ariane Palassis, who is setting up a gallery inside the old Myer building with friend Sarah Blangiardo (pictured right). “I’ve had people come up to me before and say ‘I’ve got these paintings’. But that’s the fun of Freo.”
The pair is opening one of 20-odd new “pop-up shops”—collectively known as MYRE—that will set up in the old building from October 9 until the $220 million redevelopment of Kings Square gets under way. Ms Blangiardo says there is no way the pair could afford to set up a normal gallery in the heart of the CBD. “It would be extremely difficult or almost impossible, given the rents,” she says.
Their first show is the work of photographer Jarrad Seng, who hopped about a light plane to capture stunning images of Iceland.
