Bloody ripper

ROLL up! Roll up! Freo donors will soon be able to give blood at a new $2 million centre in South Fremantle.

The centre at Fremantle hospital will relocate to the Hampton Road shopping centre at the former Salsa pasta bar site. A bonus will be plenty of free parking.

“Our new facility will be twice the size of our existing centre, and will boast larger donation and refreshment areas to make our donors’ blood donation experience more enjoyable,” says WA blood service manager Craig Rutherford.

“It will also have the capacity to expand further as demand for blood products continues to grow.”

The new centre will open more at night and make weekend appointments.

The service is funded by the federal and state governments via the National Blood Authority, which collects 27,000 donations a week across Australia.

Demand for blood products is expected to double within the next 10 years, with the blood service having recently upgraded offices nationwide.
