FERN faces being uprooted unless the Barnett government redraws the lines on Main Roads’ plans to widen High Street.

Convenor Billy Amesz says talks are being held to find an alternative site for the sustainable village, currently opposite Muzz Buzz at the corner of Montreal Street: “We don’t dispute the fact the road needs to be modified,” Mr Amesz told the Herald beside a busy Leach Highway.

“But putting in a massive curve at the Stirling Highway intersection so trucks can do 70kmh is excessive.

“Residents don’t have to contend with more trucks when we have a perfectly good rail line. Six lanes is unnecessary.”
