Thumbs down for council

MELVILLE locals are deeply dissatisfied with the Russell Aubrey-led council’s consultation and its failure to involve the community in major decisions.

Of 401 resident responses collected in 2012 for the council’s annual report, consultation was the most frequently raised issue. It was also rated as one of the worst categories, with just one in 10 saying they were delighted by the council’s consultation.

Other major problem areas include:

• “involving community in major decisions”—10 per cent delighted;

• “informing community”— 20 per cent delighted;

• “leadership”—20 per cent delighted;

• “traffic”—20 per cent delighted.

People were most happy with waste collections, recycling, parks and libraries.

The results can be discussed at the electors’ AGM at Melville HQ on December 11 at 6.30pm.
